"I've worked with over 10 doctors (I lost count) over the last 3 years regarding my neck and pain levels. Often I was in tears and hopeless to make progress with reducing the discomfort and limitations. With countless hours of massages, chiro care, pain management, supplements, travel and therapies in another states, I wasn't sure I would find someone to tackle my problem and make progress. Dr. Sweeney changed my views and showed me that I can have hope." ~ Alexis
There is a story I'd like to share with you and it begins with the Patron Saint of our office, Saint Rita (Santa Rita).
Years ago, when I was practicing in another office and preparing to open my existing space, I watched the movie "The Rookie" starring Dennis Quaid. It's based on the real life story of Jimmy Morris' journey to play major league baseball. It's your typical "conflicted man" struggle, but the thing that caught me was the opening scene.
In that scene, Catholic nuns were praying over a site which ultimately became the first oil well in Texas. It was extremely abundant, and the origin of the Texas Oil Rush. The well was nicknamed " Santa Rita" after the patron Saint of "Lost Causes".
I am constantly inspired by Santa Rita's story. She was the wife of an abusive husband and mother to three sons, all of whom she lost. From a young age, she desired to become a nun and after losing her family, her resolve only strengthened.
In order to achieve her dream, Rita implored the help of three patron saints to assist her and dedicated herself wholeheartedly to her goal. Her requests seemed impossible and yet, through her love of God, her requests were granted. She became the advocate for those whose seemingly impossible prayers were answered and continued to serve her community through love, prayer and charity for her remaining years.
Fast forward to modern times, the Santa Rita well has long gone dry and quit pumping. However, the pumping arm is on display, as it has been for years, at the University of Texas as a reminder for all of us that nothing is impossible.
I like to think the legacy of Santa Rita lives on not only in Texas, but in our office as well. Through our care, we make the impossible seem possible. We work with people who have "tried it all" and feel like they just have to live with their pain.
We have a unique perspective on health and healing and are here to walk with you on your journey back to health. We aim to always advocate for your best interest!
